The Ivy House, London (Subject of AIR
Case Study)
Location
The Ivy House is a welcoming, old country Freehouse
located in the heart of the Chiltern Hills. It
has signed up to the Hospitable Climates Programme,
a voluntary energy efficiency standard designed
to help the hospitality industry improve its bottom-line
profits and customer experience.
Brief
The busy bar area is being extended and upgraded.
Quality ventilation is required to remove smoke
and odours to improve air quality and protect
staff. As the building is Grade II listed it is
very important that the system is in keeping with
the existing design.
Solution
A supply and extract rectangular ducted system
was fitted behind the bar area, concealing it
from public view. Supply ‘eye ball diffusers’
and extract grilles were located around the upper
fascia of the bar. The ‘eye ball’
diffusers are able to throw fresh air to all corners
of the room while the extracts clear smoke, especially
around the busy bar area. Ducting outwith the
bar area was hidden by suspended ceiling.
A Sigma Heat Exchanger in the unit recycles the
heat energy to maintain comfortable internal temperatures
and avoid cold draughts.
Fresh air was also supplied behind the bar for
staff. Total period of installation was 3 days.
